CMS slated to discuss Meaningful Use Stage 3 at HIMSS conference

CMS representatives are scheduled to speak about Stage 3 of the EHR Incentive Programs at the HIMSS15 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Chicago next month, fueling speculation that the Stage 3 proposed rule may be available in time for the conference.
In January, CMS sent the Stage 3 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to the Office of Management and Budget, which is the final stop for proposed rules that must be federally reviewed prior to their release.
Stage 1 of the EHR Incentive Programs focuses on capturing and sharing data, whereas Stage 2 focuses on advanced clinical processes, according to the CMS website. Stage 3 will focus on improving healthcare outcomes and further advancing interoperability, according to information available on
Robert Anthony, deputy director of CMS’ quality measurement and health assessment group, and
Elisabeth Myers, policy and outreach lead for CMS’ division of health information technology, will co-present the session “CMS Meaningful Use Stage 3 Requirements,” according to the conference website.The CMS representatives will explain program requirements, differentiate between Stage 3 and other Meaningful Use requirements, and describe important program milestones. Stage 3 is expected to take effect in 2017, according to the session objectives.
