This year CDI Week takes place September 16-20, and focuses on ICD-10 preparedness, with the theme “ICD-10: Preparing for tomorrow today!”

Now in its third year, CDI Week offers CDI professionals the opportunity to step out of their day-to-day routines, celebrate their accomplishments, and tout their importance to the wider community. Over several months a six-person committee deliberated on this year’s theme, helped craft this year’s CDI Industry Survey, and developed new materials that CDI professionals can use. The CDI Week Toolkit includes:

  • CDI Week poster: Download the poster and have your facility print office create copies for you to hang throughout your hospital.
  • ICD-10 implementation case study: Sherri A. Clark, BSN, RN-BC, CCDS, CDI specialist at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, shares the experiences of her CDI and coding team as they have so-far educated and readied themselves for ICD-10 implementation.
  • CDI Week logo: Add the CDI Week logo to your team’s email signature line, use it on your query forms throughout the week, or add it to the stationary that you use to write your physician thank you notes.
  • Documentation quotes: Print this collection of fun CDI quotes and hang them throughout physician documentation areas.
  • PowerPoint presentations: Customize one of the four presentations which cover everything from CDI basics to the importance of CDI efforts for physician’s own E/M documentation and reimbursement.
  • Free webinars: Join us on Monday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m., Eastern, for the 3M sponsored Foster Physician Involvement and Education Under ICD-10,”or participate in Tuesday’s program, Advanced Procedures and Diagnosis Sequencing in ICD-10″ Sept. 10, at 1 p.m., Eastern, featuring ICD-10 Boot Camp instructors Jennifer Avery and Shannon McCall.

And, believe it or not, that’s just a small selection of the materials available. Sample CDI games such as Bingo, word search, and “two truths and a lie” help keep this week’s event fun and educational. There will be CDI trivia games taking place at ACDIS headquarters and within the CDI Talk networking channel as well as photo and cartoon caption contests on the ACDIS Blog and social media venues. Don't forget to send your CDI team photos and program descriptions to Melissa Varnavas for publication on the ACDIS Blog and CDI Week special section!

ACDIS will distribute the CDI Week Industry Survey and daily industry Q&As to its membership via email throughout CDI Week, but you need not be a member to access all the amazing materials–it is all free and available under the CDI Week tab on the ACDIS website.

All this is to help you spread the word about the great work you do as CDI professionals. Take advantage of these materials. Reach out to your physicians, nurses, case managers, quality professionals, administrators, to explain the value of your profession. Spread the word further and share your team photo and an explanation of your program with your local newspapers and with your local legislators. We know you do great work every day—and we think everyone else should know it too.

PS: If you missed any of last week’s discussion of CDI Week on ICD-10 Monitor’s “Talk Ten Tuesday” you can click here to hear a recording of the program featuring special guest ACDIS Director Brian Murphy.

Cheers and Happy CDI Week!
