Highlights of the past week’s Medicare updates include changes to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Database and the Medicare Quality Reporting Incentive Programs Manual; and an OIG issued fraud alert regarding physician-owned entities.
 

CMS issues April update to the 2013 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Database

 
On March 26, CMS issued a transmittal that releases the April update to the 2013 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Database.

On March 26, CMS issued a transmittal that updates the Medicare Quality Reporting Incentive Programs Manual.

CMS issues clarification of detection of duplicate claims section of the CMS Internet Only Manual
On March 29, CMS issued a transmittal to clarify Pub 100-04, Chapter 1, Section120: "Detection of Duplicate Claims" of the Medicare Internet-Only Manual (IOM). This transmittal does not constitute any new work and is for clarification purposes only.

OIG issues Special Fraud Alert: Physician-Owned Entities memo
On March 26, the OIG issued a Special Fraud Alert addresses physician-owned entities that derive revenue from selling, or arranging for the sale of, implantable medical devices ordered by their physician-owners for use in procedures the physician-owners perform on their own patients at hospitals or ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs).
