ACDIS seeks speakers to present at the 2013 ACDIS sixth Annual Conference, to be held May 21-23, 2013 at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville, TN.
We seek speakers to present on all aspects of clinical documentation and encourage case studies of successful programs. Here is a list of suggested topics:
- Pathophysiology and clinical sessions, including ulcers vs. pressure sores; electrolyte imbalances and querying; respiratory failure; changing clinical definitions and new advances in medicine, and more. Physicians and/or seasoned, clinically-minded chart reviewers preferred.
- ICD-10: Implementation plans and diagnosis and query specifics
- PEPPER data and its use in CDI
- Complex chart review or coding scenarios
- Value-Based Purchasing, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and other new or revised legislation impacting CDI
- CDI metrics beyond CMI: Measuring success beyond dollars
- Recovery Auditors: Successful strategies for denial avoidance and avoiding DRG downgrades, appeals writing, and collaboration with case management; combining case management and CDI functions
- Educating midlevel providers and other providers (PAs, ARNPs, etc.)
- EHRs and new technology: Implementation strategies and CDI specific issues; electronic querying and computer assisted coding; coping with cut-and-paste documentation issues, etc.
- CDI burnout: Keeping seasoned CDI specialists motivated and engaged
- CDI in other settings/program expansion: Outpatient, pediatrics, ED, LTACs, critical access hospitals, additional payers, etc.
- Legal aspects of CDI
- Combining quality measures review, core measures review, and traditional DRG review: case studies of successful programs
- Overcoming CDI challenges: Case studies of what didn’t work, and how changes/improvements were made
- Severity of illness and risk of mortality querying

ACDIS provides free admission to the conference for all speakers and also pays for speakers’ expenses, including hotel, airfare, travel, and meals. ACDIS can only waive admission for second and subsequent speakers presenting during the same session. Conference sessions are typically one hour in length and selected presenters will be expected to submit PowerPoint materials at a later date.
