Pay-per-view: Factor in appropriate resources for ED E/M criteria

Coding for physician services doesn’t always match coding for facility services, which can cause problems for coders who code records for both. ED E/M is one area where different rules come into play.

“The rules are very different even though we use the same codes,” says Caral Edelberg, CPC, CPMA, CAC, CCS-P, CHC, AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, president of Edelberg Compliance Associates in Baton Rouge, La. “We define them very differently on the facility side.”
