The list of approved activities for continuing education units (CEU) applicable for the recertification of the Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) credential was recently updated.

The list of activities remains essentially the same—participation at the ACDIS annual conference and other healthcare-related conferences, audio conferences and webinars, college courses, and speaking engagements. ACDIS also honors 1-for-1 nursing and CME credits.

However, the subject matter of continuing education activities must be relevant to the CDI profession, including topics such as hospital inpatient coding and/or documentation, clinical disease or diagnosis education, and documentation improvement.

Read the complete list on the ACDIS website.

If in doubt about whether a program offers applicable credits, email the ACDIS office with program details, agenda or synopsis. Please do not wait until re-certification is due to determine if credits will be accepted toward your CCDS recertification.

There are nearly 1,000 CCDS certified individuals in the United States. Learn more about the CCDS certification online, or contact Penny Richards at prichards@cdiassociation.com.
