The correct answer is D. According to legend, St. Patrick drove every snake from Ireland into an unfathomed pool amid the Kerry Hills. In fact, snakes never lived in Ireland. Ireland is surrounded by waters that are too cold to allow snakes to migrate from Britain or anywhere else. Snakes often represent evil in literature, so when Patrick drove out the snakes, he is symbolically driving the old, evil, pagan ways out of Ireland, according to National Geographic Daily
