CMS’ changing requirements for physician supervision of therapeutic and diagnostic services can even leave coders confused about services they’ve coded for years. Does the service require direct supervision? Does it fall under the incident-to rules? Did the supervision requirements change?
 

On top of that, they need to understand the supervision requirements for new Medicare benefits, such as cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) services, which became covered Medicare benefits in January.
