Pay-per-view: CMS modifies I/OCE to include additional diagnosis codes

Outpatient coders can now enter up to three diagnosis codes on the claim form after CMS updated the I/OCE.

In 2008, CMS changed the UB-04 to accept and read three reasons for visit diagnosis codes. Now the I/OCE will also accept and read three reasons for visit diagnosis codes, says Dave Fee, MBA, product marketing manager for outpatient products at 3M Health Information Systems in Murray, UT. Prior to July, the I/OCE read only one reason-for-visit code.
