Pay-per-view: Consistent criteria critical for assigning ED visit levels

No national standard exists for selecting an E/M level for ED visits, so each facility must create its own criteria for what constitutes a certain visit level. 

“You need to determine a policy in your facility that is going to be used consistently,” says Raemarie Jimenez, CPC, CPC-I, CANPC, CRHC, director of exam content for the American Academy of Professional Coders in Salt Lake City.
