Urodynamic studies are a coding challenge. Differing physician terminology, unique documentation requirements, and new combination codes make for complicated reporting of these diagnostic procedures.

Urodynamic studies are indicated for patients with functional problems of the lower urinary tract or those who plan to have surgery for pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence surgery, said Abraham Morse, MD, MBA. Morse is an instructor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
