Pay-Per-View: CMS makes few changes to I/OCE edits for April

CMS added 10 new HCPCS codes and six new APCs to the I/OCE as part of Transmittal R1927CP’s spring quarter update, but made few other changes. The changes, effective April 1, include a new modifier and three new conditionally bilateral codes. To view the transmittal, go to www.cms.hhs.gov/Transmittals/downloads/R1927CP.pdf.

One particularly interesting item is the addition of a new modifier -GX (notice of liability issued, voluntary under payer policy).

The new modifier is for use when a facility voluntarily issues an ABN for a service that is statutorily noncovered, says Dave Fee, MBA, product marketing manager for outpatient products at 3M Health Information Systems in Murray, UT.
