During a CMS Hospital Open Door Forum call, a caller asked whether ED physicians can provide supervision for pulmonary rehabilitation services, and whether they must list that service in their hospital-granted privileges.

A CMS representative explained that, for pulmonary rehabilitation, supervision must be provided by a physician and the supervised service must fall under the physician’s scope of practice and hospital-granted privileges. Therefore, listing it among the physician’s privileges would be appropriate.

This tip is adapted from “CMS discusses the three-day rule, pulmonary rehab” in the May issue of Briefings on APCs.
