Gerald Ford was appointed  vice president when Spiro Agnew pleaded no contest to a single charge that he had failed to report $29,500 of income received in 1967 and resigned October 10, 1973. When Richard Nixon resigned August 9, 1974 following the Watergate scandal, Ford became the only U.S. president  who was elected neither president nor vice president.
