Our physicians provide monthly rotation for a resident physician program. These residents are always with the physicians as they are seeing patients in the clinic. We only have an issue when the residents see patients in the emergency room. The supervising physician is not always available, and the resident sees the patients alone. This would be nights and weekend call. My question is about modifier -Q6 and the locum tenens requirements. Have other offices used this modifier, and has it applied to residents? It seems that this scenario would not apply for locum tenens, but administration is telling me to use this modifier.
