What are your current job responsibilities?

I perform hierarchical condition coding, and I travel to different projects sites (states) to assist with coding Medicare Choice patient charts.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in health information management?

It just made sense for me to pursue a career in HIM because I had a background in physician contracting and patient accounting.

What do you like most about your job?

What I like most about my job is finding information to substantiate the codes given.

What is your favorite area of coding?

My favorite area of coding is determining the appropriate level of evaluation and management service.

What is your least favorite area of coding?

My least favorite area of coding is coding for surgeries.

What are some of your hobbies?

I enjoy blogging on different coding sites and spending time with my family.

Do you have a personal motto that you live by?

My personal motto is “Stand for something or fall for anything.” It helps me to keep things real and in perspective.
