Here’s a little bit about Susan:

What are your current job responsibilities?
My current job responsibilities include providing CPT and ICD-9 codes for internal and external clients at Quest Diagnostics. I also participate in the internal CPT code and billing compliance audit process for the company's business units.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in health information management?
I started working in the clinical laboratory as a technician in hematology, serology, and virology. I became interested in the business side of the clinical laboratory, and medical coding provided the opportunity to pursue this interest.

What do you like most about your job?
The variety of coding and billing as it relates to compliance in a clinical laboratory setting.

What is your favorite area of coding?
I like diagnosis coding for anatomic pathology.

What is your least favorite area of coding?
I can't say that I have a least favorite area of coding. All of the areas of coding are interesting and challenging.

What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, reading, listening to music, and exercising.

Do you have a personal motto that you live by?
My personal motto is “Your attitude determines your altitude!”
