CMS extends comment period for CoP proposals

Homecare Insider, December 1, 2014

On November 24, CMS announced that it will extend the time frame for providers to comment on the proposed revisions to the Conditions of Participation (CoP) for home health by 30 days. CMS published a notice of this decision in the December 1 edition of the Federal Register.

After receiving multiple requests from state-based and national industry organizations to push back the end date of the comment period, originally slated for December 8, CMS decided that it will now accept comments until 5 p.m. ET on January 7, 2015.

On October 9, CMS issued its proposed rule to significantly update the CoPs for the home health industry for the first time since their inception in 1989. The new provisions are intended to promote patient-centered, interdisciplinary care to foster CMS’ aim to “achieve broad-based, measurable improvements in the quality of care furnished through the Medicare and Medicaid programs, while at the same time eliminating unnecessary procedural burdens on providers' care.”
