More than 2,000 patient records stolen

A New England dermatology system with offices in four cities lost 2,200 patient records when someone stole a computer flash drive from an employee’s car, The Metrowest Daily News of Framingham, MA, reported October 11.

Adult & Pediatric Dermatology, with Massachusetts offices in Marlborough, Westford, and Concord, and one in Wolfeboro, NH, said someone stole the flash drive from inside a locked car outside the employee’s home in Lowell, MA.

According to the Daily News, the data stolen included digital photographs of surgical skin cancer procedures and operative reports and copies of consultation letters to referring physicians.
