Note: CMS clarifies payment for CRNA Services in a CAH and transmittal dates

Critical access hospitals (CAHs) are hospitals that have met very specific requirements – including a 25 bed limit for acute care and swing beds combined, an annual average per patient length of stay of not more than 96 hours, and certification by CMS under the Medicare Conditions of Participation for CAHs.  A CAH is paid 101% of its reasonable costs for most inpatient and outpatient services rather than under the prospective payment system (PPS).
