Los Angeles DME owner sentenced to prison for submitting false claims to Medicare

A Los Angeles U.S. District Court sentenced the owner and operator of a durable medical equipment company (DME) for submitting approximately $471,000 in false claims to Medicare, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

Sylvester Ijewere, 49, owned and operated Maydads Medical Supply in Arleta, CA, between June 2007 and October 2009. Ijewere purchased fraudulent prescriptions and medical documents which he used to submit false claims to Medicare for power wheelchairs and other DME, according to the DOJ.

Ijewere was sentenced to 46 months in prison and pay approximately $212,000 in restitution.
