New Orleans DME company physician and owner plead guilty to Medicare fraud

A New Orleans-area physician and the owner and operator of a durable medical equipment company (DME) pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for their roles in a $775,000 Medicare fraud scheme, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

Emmanuel M. Komandu owned and operated Alpha Medical Solutions Inc., a purported DME company. Dahlia V. Kirkpatrick joined Alpha in January 2005 and began writing fraudulent prescriptions for medically unnecessary power wheelchairs, wheelchair accessories, and feeding nutrients, according to the DOJ. Medicare paid approximately $303,000 on Alpha’s fraudulent submissions.

Kirkpatrick and Emmanuel each face a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
