Miami HIV clinic owner pleads guilty in $23M Medicare fraud scheme

Compliance Monitor, September 15, 2010

A Miami-area HIV infusion clinic owner pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to her role in a $23 million Medicare fraud scheme, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

Flor Crisologo, 58, former owner and operator of J&F Community Medical Center Inc., hired physicians to provide unnecessary injection and infusion tests, sign false medical records, and authorize improper treatments, according to the DOJ. Crisologo admitted to paying Medicare beneficiaries kickbacks to persuade them to declare they received legitimate HIV injection and infusion services, when they had not.

Crisologo faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and fines at her November 23 sentencing date.
