Compliance Monitor, September 8, 2010

A Washington, DC, U.S. District court judge sentenced a former durable medical equipment (DME) company owner to five years probation, 1,000 hours of community service, and a fine of $122,925 for her role in defrauding Washington Medicaid, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

Donna C. Barry, 45, admitted to submitting false claims to Washington Medicaid for canes, walkers, hospital beds, wheelchairs, and other DME. Barry did not provide the equipment stated on her claims, and in some instances the DME ordered was not covered under the Medicaid program, according to the DOJ.
