Florida tops $400 million in Medicaid fraud recoveries

Compliance Monitor, August 25, 2010

Florida’s Attorney General, Bill McCollum announced that the state’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) exceeded $400 million in recoveries, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

In 2007, McCollum created the Complex Civil Enforcement Bureau—a branch of the MFCU that litigates Florida False Claims Act cases. In 2009, a new program began rewarding informants who provide original information on Medicaid fraud violations.

More than $37 million of the $400 million recovered has gone to the state’s General Revenue fund, according to the DOJ.
