Louisiana's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit returns $45M to state and federal programs

Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell announced that the state’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) returned approximately $45 million to the state and federal Medicaid programs in fiscal year 2009-2010, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release

The recovery is a result of the Louisiana MFCU’s partnership with the DOJ and Department of Health and Human Services-Office of Inspector General’s Medicare Fraud Control Unit to combat Medicaid and Medicare fraud.

Louisiana’s MFCU reported the following for fiscal year 2009-2010:

  • 102 arrests
  • 67 convictions
  • 143 pending prosecutions throughout the state
