Corporate Compliance

Tip: Designate a compliance committee

Compliance Monitor, May 5, 2010

Establishing a compliance committee will help advise the compliance officer and assist in the implementation and monitoring of the compliance program. This team-based strategy will encourage communication between the compliance officer and hospital personnel in order to effectively report potential incidents. The committee should do the following:

  • Become knowledgeable about the content and operation of its compliance program
  • Review actions taken to ensure that they are consistent with standards and expectations to your hospital
  • Discuss disciplinary actions against those who have violated hospital policy
  • Review audit results and make recommendations
  • Approve annual compliance work plans
  • Approve hiring of outside consultants
  • Ensure that the compliance officer has the necessary resources to effectively perform his or her role
  • Present reports of compliance activities to the board
