Florida woman sentenced in Michigan for $10.7 million fraud scheme

A Florida woman who set up false medical clinics in the Detroit area was sentenced to eight years in prison for fraudulently billing Medicare for $10.7 million, according to The Detroit News.

Daisy Martinez allegedly fled Florida to Michigan in response to the escalated crackdown on Medicare fraud. According to The Detroit News, Martinez admitted to supplying kickbacks to Medicare beneficiaries in exchange for their numbers. Martinez then billed Medicare for drug treatments that were not necessary or never provided.
