Detroit infusion clinic manager submits $2.3 million in fraudulent Medicare claims

Compliance Monitor, February 10, 2010

Infusion clinic owner, Dulce Briceno, will face 63 months in prison for her roll in a $2.3 million Medicare fraud scheme, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.
In her plea, Briceno admitted to paying Medicare beneficiaries cash and narcotic kickbacks. In exchange for the kickbacks, beneficiaries provided signed documents indicating they received services from the Detroit clinic Briceno managed, X-Press Center. X-Press owners paid Briceno a percentage of the profits the kickbacks generated.
Medicare paid $1.8 million of the $2.3 million in fraudulent submissions. According to the DOJ, Briceno’s sentence orders her to pay the $1.8 million in restitution.
