Genesys Health System agrees to pay $670,000 to settle overbilling allegations

Compliance Monitor, December 30, 2009

Genesys Health System has agreed to pay the United States $670,000 to settle claims that it billed Medicare for more expensive services than it provided, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

The DOJ alleged that Michigan-based Genesys overbilled for evaluation and management services it provided to cardiology patients between 2001 and 2007.

A private citizen filed the case under the False Claims Act’s qui tam provision. The whistleblower will receive more than $133,000.
