Nursing shortage set to improve

Experts feared that the number of nurses in the workforce would be 30% short of what’s needed by 2025. But a new study in Medical Care shows that future predictions are changing for the better.

Projections now show that there will only be 4% fewer nurses than needed in 2025 if current trends continue.

“We still project the nation will have a shortage of around 130,000 nurses by 2025, which is by no means a small number, but not the overwhelming shortage that we had once anticipated,” co-author Peter Buerhaus, director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Workforce Studies at Montana State University was quoted as saying by the American Hospital Association.
