Focus on mental health to reduce readmissions

Can mental health screenings help reduce your readmissions rate? A new study conducted by researchers at the Center for Health Policy and Health Services Research says yes.

Researchers found that patients with both medical and certain mental health problems were up to 5% more likely than patients without mental health problems to wind up back in the hospital after discharge. Screening for mental health problems in patients with heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, and pneumonia may help organizations reduce readmissions for these conditions.
