Knee and hip replacements pack a price punch
Case Management Insider, April 28, 2015
Patient readmissions following hip and knee replacements can run up a huge tab. For example, the average total knee arthroplasty readmission costs an average of $32,922, according to a presentation abstract from the American Academy of Osteopathic Surgeons.
Dr. Joseph Bosco III, an orthopedic surgeon at the The New York University Langone Medical Center, said that physicians should strive to prevent these readmissions whenever possible by adopting protocols and procedures to help patients avoid a return trip to the ED.
