ED visits among young adults drop

Your hospital emergency department (ED) may still be busy, but if your hospital reflects national trends, you may be seeing fewer young adults seeking routine care.  

A new study in the Annals of Emergency Medicine showed a drop in ED visits among adults 19–25, likely due to the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that people under age 26 remain on their parents’ health insurance, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. This amounts to more than 190,000 visits a year for people in this age group.
