Help patients adhere to medication protocol to reduce MI readmissions

Looking to reduce readmissions among patients with myocardial infarction (MI)? A new study shows that helping patient adhere to their medications after discharge can help.

Some 7.9 million Americans have a history of MI, according to the American Heart Association. These patients are frequently readmitted to the hospital after discharge. From 2006 to 2008, readmission rates for Medicare patients with this condition ranged from 22.5% to 24.8%. The study found that patients who stuck to their medication regime for six months had a lower readmisison rate than those who didn’t.
