What is Iron Overload?
Iron Overload is a build up of iron in the blood over time. Most commonly, Iron Overload occurs in patients receiving blood transfusions for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), and Thalassemia. Dr. Ayer-Cole, founder of Central Tampa Hematology & Oncology Associates, wants to be known for focusing on her patients and not on their diseases. Dr. Ayer-Cole prides herself in treating patients with cancer and blood disorders by combining research-proven treatment with old fashioned compassion in a family-like atmosphere.
Dr. Ayer-Cole, a Florida native, completed her Bachelor of Science in Economics at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in Tallahassee. She then earned her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1998 from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. To round out her education, in 2001 Dr. Ayer-Cole completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2004, she completed a Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at Emory. Dr. Ayer-Cole received her board certifications in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
