Safety problems play role in lost accreditation for NC hospital
A state psychiatric hospital in North Carolina has lost its Joint Commission accreditation in part because of safety-related citations.
 
OSHA renews Red Cross alliance
OSHA and the American Red Cross renewed an alliance to improve employee awareness of safety and health issues in the workplace. The focus of the two organization’s renewed efforts will be on emergency preparedness, first aid, and disease prevention, especially as it relates to workers with limited proficiency in English.
 
Tip of the week: Drill for internal disasters
Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA, evacuated on June 13 after floodwaters rose on its downtown campus as a result of torrential rains. The facility is now reviewing its response and incorporating proposed changes into the emergency operations plan, says Joanie McMahon, administrative supervisor of emergency management at the hospital.
