Dear credentialing colleague:

A few weeks ago during HCPro’s webinair’s “Kadlec Reversed: How to Collect and Share Credentialing Data While Avoiding Legal Risk,” one of the speakers mentioned the concept of  “forever more” verifications. I thought this was great idea and had one of our credentialing coordinators research and develop this new process internally at our organization.

 
Doctor claims discrimination from credentials committee, judge agrees

A federal court judge found that a credentials committee’s order instructing a female physician to undergo a physical evaluation was discriminatory, according to a July 2 Boston Globe article. Sagun Tuli, MD, a neurosurgeon at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston claimed that the committee’s recommendation was based in part on continuous harassment from the chief of neurosurgery. The judge’s June 30 ruling overturned an earlier recommendation from a US magistrate judge.

The Joint Commission’s Standard Improvement Initiative, which will take effect January 1, 2009, features a renumbering and in some cases a restructuring of the standards. If you haven’t taken a look at the standards, don’t wait for the new year to do so. They’re available to the public online at http://www.jointcommission.org/Standards/SII/default.htm.

Not only is the applicant responsible for ensuring that all information provided on the application or associated documents is true, correct, and complete, he or she is also responsible for ensuring that all other requested information is received and that any inaccuracies are clarified to the satisfaction of the organization.
