A patient left in a chair at a North Carolina hospital for 22 hours died, the Associated Press reports.  

 
Hospital Compare releases additional mortality rate information

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released death rates for the past two years for pneumonia, heart attack, and heart failures. These rates are specific to individual hospitals across the country, CNN reports.  

 
AHRQ tool looks at disaster drills

The Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released a tool intended to assist hospitals in testing and evaluating their emergency and disaster drills.  

 
Brochure looks at stress in the healthcare workplace

The Department of Health and Human Services National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has released a brochure examining occupational stress in hospitals and the underlying causes and possible health effects.  

 
Simplicity works: Punch clocks help with date/time compliance
Being open to trial and error is a must at a hospital. Cecile Broussard, RN, MS, quality manager at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA, knows this firsthand: When she implemented the use of a punch clock for dating and timing physician orders at Our Lady of Lourdes, some departments responded well, and others did not.
