Patient satisfaction soars to all-time high, says Press Ganey survey
Patient satisfaction has experienced an “unprecedented spike,” according to an announcement last week from the comparative healthcare company Press Ganey Inc., Associates. Press Ganey surveyed 1.5 million patients and 1,158 U.S. hospitals from January 2007 to June 2008, finding an increase in the number of patients who rated their hospital as a 9 or 10 and would recommend the facility to others.
 
Medicare HAC and POA non-payment changes take effective today

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) overhauled its system of MS-DRG hospital reimbursement. Taking effect today, Oct. 1, CMS will cease to pay hospitals for certain “never events,” including hospital-acquired conditions (HAC) with adjustments to present-on-admission (POA) conditions.

 
HBIPS core measure set available today

Free-standing psychiatric hospitals and accredited hospitals with acute inpatient psychiatric units can now use a new measure set for Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services (HBIPS) to meet Joint Commission ORYX performance measurement requirements, effective on discharges on or after today, Oct. 1.
