Prepare for interview season
January is one of the busiest interview months for residency program directors, coordinators, and faculty. To help you through this hectic time, this three-part series from Residency Program Connection will offer you insight and advice on the interview process. It is no secret that meeting resident work-hour requirements is difficult for many programs, but modifying your systems may make adhering to those requirements a little easier. There are several creative strategies for trimming hours, including the following:

Our residents rotate through six hospitals during the course of a year. They only come together twice a year at the department orientation in June and again at these mandatory group meetings. Because of duty hour compliance issues, not all of our residents can even make it to our weekly Grand Rounds presentations. As any of you in a similar situation know, it’s hard to get an idea of how your residents are feeling and doing when they’re not right under your nose everyday.

ACGME implements new process for Resident Surveys and duty hour violations
The ACGME last week released a special announcement that outlines standardized processes for handling potential duty hour violations, revealed by the Resident Survey and for improving Residency Survey completion rates, according to a Sept. 18 announcement.
