NIAHO is the frontier of accreditation standards

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) granted deeming authority to Cincinnati-based Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Healthcare, Inc., in September, making it the first new hospital accreditation organization in more than 30 years. Hospitals interested in working with the new organization must adhere to DNV’s National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHOSM) standards.

Do new Joint Commission standards mean throwing away existing policies? In some cases, merging is best
When The Joint Commission implemented focused professional practice evaluations (FPPE), the idea of monitoring new privileges wasn’t entirely new to MSPs. In recent years, some medical staffs have assigned newly privileged practitioners to a provisional period (also known as a provisional category). Medical staffs with a provisional period now have to ask themselves:
 
Retail clinics grow in popularity, but who’s doing their credentialing and privileging?
As retail clinics sprout across the country at pharmacies and grocery stores, MSPs may be asking themselves who’s responsible for the credentialing and privileging. The answer depends on which clinic you mean. Some, such as CVS’ MinuteClinics and Walgreens’ Take Care Health Systems, employ a staff of credentialing professionals to follow Joint Commission standards and conduct primary source verification on hired practitioners. Others, such as Wal-Mart, rent in-store locations to clinics responsible for their own policies and procedures.
