Hospital ERs unprepared to handle terrorist attacks
Nearly seven years after 9/11, the country’s ERs and hospitals are not prepared to deal with the surge of patients that could result from a major terrorist attack, according to a House oversight committee.
 
Security guards strike at some Kaiser hospitals

Contract security officers walked off the job at 16 Kaiser Permanente medical facilities in northern California last week in a three-day strike to raise support for their longtime efforts to unionize, reported the Sacramento Business Journal. Security guards in southern California also walked off the job for one day only.

 
Four hospital employees charged for failing to report rape
Prosecutors in Scottsdale, AZ filed charges against four hospital employees who allegedly failed to report the sexual assault of a stroke patient to law enforcement, reported CBS 5 Phoenix.
 
Tip of the week: Work with community in emergency planning
Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) standards require hospitals to establish response efforts when local community support isn’t available for at least 96 hours following a catastrophe.
