| Tips for compliant long-term care of short-stay patients |
| Short-stay outliers for long-term care hospitals (LTCH) steadily declined between fiscal years (FY) 2003 and 2006, according to a report the OIG issued in late March.
The decline coincides with CMS' reduction of the payment amounts for these stays.
The OIG's focus on short stays, as well as attention to short-stay audits from recovery audit contractors (RAC) makes it critical for LTCHs to take appropriate steps to maintain compliance. |
