The constantly evolving role of today's hospitalist can open the door to a wide variety of opportunities and responsibilities that make the physician's role dynamic, challenging, and interesting. But new roles and responsibilities can also lead to more work than a hospitalist can handle, and that can eventually result in burnout. Amin, MD, MBA, FACP, executive director of the hospitalist program and vice chair for clinical affairs and quality in the department of medicine at the University of California Medical Center in Irvine. "Unreasonable expectations in terms of daily clinical load may be the primary reason, though." |
