| Stage II of the QIS focuses on in-depth review |
| Editor's note: This second article in a two-part series on the quality indicator survey (QIS) describes how Stage II of the two-stage survey process works. Part one explained the components of Stage I.
Stage II of the QIS process involves the comprehensive resident-level review of every care area that is triggered when the facility exceeds the national, individually preset threshold for a related quality-of-care indicator (QCI) derived from the Stage I census sample, admission sample, or MDS sample. Care areas also can be triggered for in-depth Stage II review when a surveyor chooses to include residents in the surveyor-initiated sample. |
