| Charge appropriately for radiopharmaceuticals in 2008 |
| Throw the notion out the window that your facility should not pay attention to the way it reports and charges for radiopharmaceuticals in 2008. Although CMS is packaging the majority of radiopharmaceuticals, this change does not mean you can turn a blind eye to operations and education.
In 2007 and in previous years, Medicare paid separately for radiopharmaceuticals. Because radiologists use different drugs during certain procedures, and a radiologist may perform the same procedure using different drugs on separate occasions, the cost of the drugs can differ greatly, says Duane Abbey, PhD, CFP, a management consultant and president of Abbey & Abbey Consultants, Inc., in Ames, IA. |
