| Initiatives increase nursing autonomy |
| In preparation for ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® (MRP) redesignation, the medical-surgical unit at Columbus (IN) Regional Hospital-an MRP recipient in 2003-listened to its nurses' call for something they wanted: more autonomy in their practice.
To accomplish this, three nurse leaders from the unit-a nurse manager, a clinical nurse specialist, and a case manager-consulted with Columbus Regional's CNO to discuss what decisions could be given to nurses to enhance the care they provide for their patients, while keeping in mind the state's and the hospital's scope of practice for nurses. |
