  • What does our administrator job description need to cover?

    As with any position in the company, it is important to set clear expectations for the position. These expectations are set through the use of job descriptions. An employee job description should include a list of job duties as well as essential functions. Stating these in writing, and providing a copy of the job description to the employee at the time of hire, is important. It is important to establish that employee is aware of expectations so that he or she can attempt to meet them and, failing that, be disciplined for poor performance. Some suggested duties to included in an administrator’s job description are:

  • How do I sequence this code if it is a sequela of a TBI?

    Code the TBI first, with S06.9x0S (Unspecified intracranial injury without loss of consciousness, sequela) followed by the code for the major neurocognitive disorder, F01.50. When coding sequela, you should code the residual first (i.e. the problem you’re seeing now) followed by the cause (whatever condition led to the residual), unless the classification or tabular instruction says to do otherwise.
    This might occur when the residual is a manifestation code subject to the etiology-manifestation convention. [I.A.13]

    Agencies must abide by certain regulations in order to participate in the Medicare program, as well as abiding by any state or local regulations that apply. It is important to understand that OASIS is a document with a single signature attesting to the accuracy of the information collected. Combining the home health regulations with the OASIS requirements has led to the widely held perception that the OASIS is the responsibility of one clinician alone, but it is not.
