When the resident communicates a desire to commit suicide, a licensed nurse should:
- Request a social service consultation
- Notify the attending physician
- Request an order for a psychological consultation
- Update the care plan and communicate the resident's intention to other staff, as appropriate
- Review the MDS to determine whether a significant change assessment is necessary
- Schedule the resident for review during the next care plan meeting
- Notify the responsible party
